EXCLUSIVE: Gerald Anderson reacts to being hailed MVP at inaugural Bida sa Arena: ‘I always give my best’

Gerald Anderson once again proved his basketball prowess at the recently concluded inaugural Bida sa Arena event held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The actor-athlete was named Most Valuable Player, as his team, Team Third Floor, secured a 96–89 victory over Team Sparkle.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, Gerald shared what it was like playing against their fellow celebrity colleagues.

“It’s a good experience sobra. I think this is the first time na nagkaroon ng laro between the stations. We’re just very grateful to be part of something like this, to put something together para sa fans. And I wanna say, grabe din sa the other team. They really practiced. They gave their best sa laban. Just very thankful for this competition,” he expressed.
He added how being named MVP was a humbling experience for him.

“For me, it’s just another game. I always give my best sa lahat ng ginagawa ko. So, whatever I’m doing, if it’s acting, if it’s business, if it’s basketball, I always give my best,” Gerald explained.

The premier leading man also reflected on his role as team captain, emphasizing that it was never about him but about the team.

“You have to ask them (how I was as a captain). I don’t really know… I just try to lead by example,” he humbly said.

He went on to share the team’s mindset throughout the match: ‘Stay calm. Meron kaming game plan. Execute the game plan (and) play together.”

The action-drama star also shared how he made time to train despite leading their series Blood vs Duty.

“It was very hard. To be honest, it was very hard. I wanted to practice more, pero it was hard. But we found time. Everyone found time,” he shared.

Gerald assured fans that more is in store for their intense series, while also sharing how he and co-star Richard Gutierrez make their dynamic work.

“Well, si Marcus Reyes (played by Richard) at si Jalil Abubakar (Gerald’s character) marami pang mangyayari (sa kanila). Like as we speak, meron kami maagang call time. We’re gonna be doing one of the biggest scenes tomorrow of the whole show. So medyo segue segue from this to that. But you know, I got a brother in charge and we work hard together,” he teased.
